Wreck claims two Meridian residents east of Fairfield
THE CONCRETE SLAB for the Teague Economic Development Corporation’s new offices was poured last week so construction between the two buildings in the 400 block of Main Street should be beginning soon.
A head-on collision on Highway 84, 6 miles east of Fairfield on Friday, February 3rd, left two dead and four seriously injured. Killed in the accident were Charline Wallace, 62, and Dewayne McCain, 38, both of Meridan, Texas.
A 2001 Coup De Ville Cadillac, driven by Joshua Williams, 17, of Palestine, was traveling west on Highway 84, toward Fairfield when the driver made the decision to pass in a no passing zone.
A 2017 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by William Wallace, 64 of Meridian, Texas, was traveling eastbound on Highway 84. Mr. Wallace was unable to avoid the vehicle coming at him, in his lane, resulting in the collision. Mr. Wallace was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waco in stable condition. Ms. Wallace and Mr. McCain were pronounced dead at the scene by Freestone County Judge, Cinnamon Archibald.
There were four passengers in the Cadillac, one 16 year old, one 17 year old and two 18 year olds who were seriously injured. They were taken to ETMC Tyler and Fairfield Medical Center. The driver was taken to Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler.
